Separate selection from release
Opening a package record is not the same event as physically handing the box to a collector. A trial should reveal exactly when the system changes status and what the employee must confirm. Use invented identities and empty boxes. Follow the property’s approved authorization procedure; this exercise does not define who may collect a resident’s property or replace that policy.

Run one uncomplicated pickup
Begin with one sample parcel and the matching fictional collector. Ask the employee to identify the record, retrieve the item, confirm the handoff and view the record again. Capture which action changed the status and what the next colleague sees. If a verification photograph or identity scan is available, ask how it is protected and whether it is necessary for the test. Do not use a real identity document just to demonstrate a button.

Test a partial collection deliberately
Give one fictional recipient two separate parcels but collect only one. The expected result is that the remaining parcel is still findable as waiting for collection. Check the physical shelf and the record together. If the interface groups parcels, verify the selection boundary before confirming. A display of a recipient’s name must not be mistaken for evidence that every parcel under that name was released.

Interrupt the process before the handoff
Pause the exercise after selection but before the sample box changes hands. Have the tester explain what is saved and what is still pending. Then resume or cancel through the supported interface. Do not simulate disruption on live customer records. If a timeout, navigation change or repeated click creates an unexpected outcome, record the exact steps and ask the provider for the supported recovery path.

Inspect the correction path without assuming an audit trail
Suppose the wrong sample parcel was marked collected. Ask who is permitted to correct it, what evidence remains and how the physical stock is reconciled. Observe the actual behavior. Some products preserve history and some require a separate procedure; the trial must not assume either. Avoid deleting evidence simply to make the test screen look tidy. Resolve the sample case and document the limitation before normal use.
Record the handoff result clearly
Use a short checklist: correct parcel selected, approved collector process followed, physical transfer completed, only intended items changed status, unresolved items still visible. A pass requires the full sequence. Protect any retained test evidence and keep it separate from customer histories. The FTC’s business guidance on limiting collected personal information is relevant when deciding what proof to capture. Return the result to the main trial decision rather than approving rollout from a single successful click.
